Nirvana Fallacy

One issue I see with people wanting to lose weight is their unrealistic expectations. Come on people! This is not the fantasy land of TV where you lose 100 lbs in 5 weeks! Come on, they live in a gym, 6 hours a day and have chefs prepare their 100 calorie a day meals. The even have their own personal trainers who torture them daily! Reality TV is not the same as reality. Biggest Loser is not reality. It's TV! Get it together guys! What they are doing is an inhumane science experiment for ratings! I'm surprised no one has died! And have you heard most of them are worse off now then when they started! They rebound so hard! Why? Because torturing people is horrible incentive to change habits! Did you forget the TV exists to capture your attention? If it didn't, you'd be doing something else. On purpose they compress time to keep thing interesting. It's not reality! It's simple. If you want lasting results, you need to develop a ...

A New Year

2017 brings a new year and with it, a new direction. A direction out of hiding in the shadows into a world I am no longer ashamed of myself. Funny, how shame even creeps on me after all the success I've experienced. You'd think by now I'd find the cure! But shame is a slithering, sneaky, serpent of a dragon, not easy killed. I submitted and hid in shame for years. The thing is, just like in weightless, I can't cancel out the years with a couple of days. Shame And I don't even know why I struggle. I've spent time trying to figure it out. The result? Nothing other than I am afraid to the shame of failure to the point of paralyzation. For so many years, I could't stand losing. I was (still am in ways) ultra competitive. Even my wife refused to play board games with me for years because of it. We're only recently getting back to where will break out a game. 5 years ago, I'd get mad at the table if I rolled a 1. Man, I had some issues. Still do. Th...

Not every opinion is worth listening to

When you have goals, it's important to find others who's beliefs line up with them. Is not it easier to communicate with those in agreement? Imagine getting fitness advice from someone who doesn't care about fitness. Don't surround yourself with the wrong people and expect the right results to fall in your lap. Dumping Friends Then should you dump friends who don't share you views? Just because your friend doesn't share your interest in fitness or weight loss doesn't mean you can't share other interests. I know many gamers who don't care about weight loss. No problem! I still love them and we still frequently hang out. Of course, if they ever do become interested, they know who to talk to. Imposing Views The issue arrives when their goals impose on your goals. If you struggle with overcoming an addiction to sweet deserts and your friends keeps offering you ice cream, their goals are imposing on your goals. Listen, it may be a good intention in...

All Mirrors Lie

At work Michael mentioned he uses a mirror to determine his fitness. I had to ask him, "So what does fit 'look' like anyway?" What does fit look like? Lying Mirrors I realize many people do it. I know I have. But when we determine our 'health and fitness levels' by looks, we are doing our self a huge disservice, physically and mentally. The body is a fast fading facade. Don't slide down that slippery slope. PS By the way, mirrors don't lie. It's just the stories we tell ourselves looking in mirrors aren't always accurate.
