February Challenge - Capture The Critic

Image
*Note: this is not a political endorsement, it's a controversial topic turned analogy. Ever notice the things we'd never say to others, we tell ourselves all the time? It needs to stop and now. We need to enforce an immediate ban on all inner critics! But how do we stop it? Do we build a 10 ft wall topped with razor wire all along the parameter, refusing to allow anything in? I say that answer is not good enough! The thoughts will just come back like boomerangs, with friends, and ladders, ... or tunnels. There is only so much wall you can build. If you ever watched World War Z, You know what I mean. What's more. Locked down, impenetrable walls also keep out the good. When struggling with hordes of enemies, last thing you need is a ban on positive reinforcement. Option 2 So what? Do you drop all ideas of walls and have an open border? Do you allow thought in and out with freedom? That's one good way to secure a flow of positive mental reinforcements. Or is i...

Misplaced Blame

On my About Me page I mention how I was depressed without hope and I believed my family was falling apart before my eyes. Looking back, I realize I was deceiving myself, devouring unhealthy thoughts. I started to believe my family was against me and began self fulfilling the negative prophecy in my mind. False Narrative With the false narrative, I added to my 10 ton bag of lies and began to misplace blame. I started looking for reasons why my family was 'broken'. Days they didn't have energy to clean, I'd fill my plate with the fruit of resentment thinking. "If only they loved me, they'd help me pick up this house." What's more, when Anne Marie mentioned how I also forgot to finish a chore, I would be quick to anger, pointing out how it was me always bending over backwards. Busting my butt. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids. Relationships But it's not easier to fit a square peg in a round hole by pushing harder. I was planting ...

Hacking Accountability to Combat Depression

Just like food, you consume thoughts. Consider that for a minute. Every second a hero's feast of thoughts lies before you. Some thoughts are your own while others are from those you know. Still others from origins not immediately obvious. They all sprinkle across the table before you, ready for consumption. The question is... With which thoughts do you feed yourself? Like food, not all thoughts are healthy. Some can even make you physically ill! Healthy and unhealthy, positive and negative, good and evil, life giving and toxic! Your tables is a smörgåsbord of different thoughts. Which ones are you eating? A Mental Harvest Thoughts dictate emotions and emotions dictate actions. When you consume a seed of thought, you bring it into your own body. Once within, you water and grow the seed into a plant of emotion. Eventually, those emotions bud flowers and bear forth the fruit of our actions. I ask you, Does an orange tree grow apples and an apple tree grow oranges? No! The seeds ...

I Used To Care...

Image
We all struggle and to share just my 'highlight reel' or personal progression is disingenuous. So I'm going to do the painful thing and talk more about what hurt. Both before and during my journey. It wasn't easy. I'm not an overnight success of health. I struggled! But this is also a message of hope. Keep the faith and the storms will subside. You WILL come out the other side transformed like caterpillar to butterfly! I Used To Care... I used to care about many things but I realized they were all the wrong things to care about. There was nothing I could do to influence it anyway. At least... Not in a meaningful manner. So I stopped caring. I stopped caring about the distresses the media fed me. I became carefree. Or so I thought. I really became careless. Instead of living a relaxed life without anxiety, I lived a sloppy life full of fear. It it not a good life to live. You see not caring was even worse then caring for the wrong things. So I took a cha...
